With all of the recent listeria scares, I’ve been looking for ways to clean produce better. Cleaning with alcohol can potentially reduce the transmission of pathogens from the exterior to the interior of the produce. I’d personally prefer not to ingest isopropyl alcohol, but ethanol, the kind in alcoholic beverages, seems quite a bit safer. As such, I’ve been washing all my hard-skinned fruit and vegetables with inexpensive vodka. Cheap vodka can be purchased for around $12 for 1.75 liters and can be a great kitchen and household cleaner.
Whether or not you choose to make a cocktail out of this cheap stuff is an entirely different risk.
