…no really. I am. Sometimes I love to cook with wine and when I do, I really use it. If I cook coq au vin, beef bourguignon, and even some pears in red wine in a week, I might need 3 or more bottles of wine. A couple of years ago, I found a crisp chardonnay from Hardy’s that was great for cooking and it came in a box. I found the box worked wonderful for cooking as it kept the wine fresh as I used it over the course of a couple of weeks. Sadly, when I bought my second box, the wine was heavily oaked. I suppose they were trying to placate the palates of those who love the California style of chardonnay. I really don’t like overly oaked white wine, especially when you reduce and concentrate it in cooking. After one good experience and one bad, I gave up.

In any case, I’m hoping to revisit the idea. Does anyone know of a good boxed white wine for cooking? Something perhaps steel fermented.

Additionally, does anyone know of a nice boxed red for cooking? Perhaps a light bodied Merlot or a Pinot (I doubt a pinot will be priced right however).

Any help would be appreciated. 🙂
