A great friend and prior colleague decided to check this place out on the recommendation of Chef Ola Fendert from Restaurant Oola (http://www.oola-sf.com/). We were actually planning on dining at Oola but since our schedules necessitated an early dinner (and Oola doesn’t start service until 6PM) we asked Chef for a recommendation. He pointed us in the direction of Jack Falstaff.
Jack Falstaff is one of the newest restaurants of the PlumpJack family. The restaurant’s decor and ambiance is the typical SoMa trendy style. Our server was wonderful – polite, courteous, and nice. They serve a number of condiments for your bread: Napa honey, olive oil, vanilla infused oil, tapenade, and a few others. It’s a simple but nice touch (and a nice variation) that starts the meal off well. We both decided on the Slow Cooked California Halibut with Fava Beans, River Dog Farm English Peas, Wild Asparagus, Beech Mushrooms, Curry Soubise. The flavors and seasoning were quite good but unfortunately the Halibut was overcooked. Had the fish been properly cooked, I would have considered returning.
In short, it’s a nice spot if your in the area but better can be had in a 2-3 block radius.
