Last night we opened a bottle of David Bruce 2003 Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir to enjoy with a nice roast chicken (Thomas Keller’s Bouchon recipe). We picked it up a couple of weekends ago while on a leisurely drive through the Santa Cruz Mountains. They were not pouring this estate bottle when we were there so we purchased it without tasting it. I don’t profess to be a Pinot expert but I was less than happy with it. The fruit seemed lost in the overly alcohol nose even when sampled with Riedel Sommelier Burgundy glasses. When I could get a scent of the wine, all I could detect was some black cherry with little to no secondary notes. In my mouth, the wine seemed to lack structure and finished with unpleasant bitter tannins. Oh well…they can’t all be great.
too bad.. the wine was so painful..
at least the stemware was beautiful.. oh how i love those burgundy riedel glasses! gorgeous.
