Lately I’ve been really enjoying Andrea (Immer) Robinson’s Simply Wine program on Fine Living. I absolutely love that she introduces varietals that I’ve been reluctant to try or haven’t even heard of. Of course, one has to take what she says on the TV program with a grain of salt since she almost always says “wow” after tasting a wine but never say anything negative. But overall, I find her descriptions trustworthy and she is after all a Master Sommelier.

Although I like to pick my wines myself (at my favorite store K&L or direct at the winery), I thought that subscribing to a wine club would force me to try new things. As such, I signed up for Andrea’s A-List Wine Club a few weeks ago and just received by first shipment. Although I haven’t opened a bottle yet, here is my experience so far. The wine shipment was fulfilled by eWinery Solutions in American Canyon in Napa county. I received a shipping notification at 5:02AM today via email and the package arrived this morning. Total shipping time was less than 24 hours which is a good thing for those hot days. I’m not sure where or how they ship to other states but I’m quite happy.

At $89.85 plus tax and shipping, it’s not an inexpensive wine club but it typically includes three bottles which she claims, “are so amazing that they’ve excelled in my blind tastings against benchmark bottles at 3-4 times the price!” My first shipment included only two bottles, due to the high price of the selection. Although she didn’t choose any lesser known varietals, I’m excited to check these out:

Goldeneye Pinot Noir, Anderson Valley 2003
Brookwalter Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley 2003

Included with the wine are her tasting notes and some suggested recipes. So far, we’re off to a good start. I’ll post my tasting notes as soon as I get around to opening them up.

From her notes, it sounds like 2003 was a great year for Washington Cabernet. Anyone have recommendations for over the top huge 2003 Cabs from Washington? Also, anyone else have any good experiences with wine clubs?
