After years of searching, I’ve finally found a great basic T-shirt. Over the years, I’ve typically found two types of T-shirts – baggy/frumpy ones or ones that fit so tight they are like a sausage skin. Neither are options I’m willing to accept.
Dolce and Gabbana made some of my favorite T’s in the mid 90’s but at $80 a shirt they were pretty expensive. Prada also made some really nice one’s in the late 90’s (again, ridiculously expensive at ~$180) before they started basically selling women’s shirts as men’s. That’s not a shirt, that’s a blouse! In the past few years, I’ve been wearing Banana Republic stretch T’s. Not bad, but they start looking haggard after a few months of wear, especially the black ones. The price is better but not perfect at $22.50.
I just tried the 2(x)ist T’s (3100 series) and I couldn’t be more happy. They fit like the D&G T-shirts of years past. The crew necks are perfect. The V-necks are good but the neck line is not perfect – a little loose. To make things better, I found a 3 pack at TJ Maxx for $12.99. That is a price I can live with. There is nothing like a fresh shirt so if they start wearing out, throw it out or just use it to wax your car. At ~$4 a shirt, one can afford to do that.
